Mental Health First Aid

2 days

Centrecare Corporate are accredited trainers of the only internationally recognized Mental Health First Aid training workshop.  This 12 hour workshop offers modules on the identification and early intervention of depression, anxiety, acute stress and trauma and managing
psychosis.

1 in 4 members of the community now meet the diagnostic criteria for a mental health disorder in any given year.  The most common and disabling mental health problems are often undiagnosed and manifest themselves in conflict, relationship breakdown and a significantly reduced level of functioning. Many people suffer a mental illness for a long time before they seek help. Furthermore, alcohol and drug problems frequently occur in conjunction with depression, anxiety and psychosis.

While people often know a lot about common physical health problems, there is widespread misunderstanding of mental health problems. This lack of information can add to an experience of feeling stigmatized prevents people from seeking help in an informed and supported manner. It also prevents people providing appropriate support to colleagues and family members, simply because they do not know how.

Participants will increase their knowledge and understanding in;

  • Assessing risk of self harm or harm to others.
  • Identifying signs and symptoms of mental health disorders.
  • Offering support, containment, information and referral.

Participants will view Mental Health DVD’s, engage in small group discussion and receive comprehensive referral information.

Light lunch and refreshments provided.
