Mental health problems are common, yet many people are not well informed regarding these issues. Most workplaces are equipped to deal with basic first aid but how many people know how to deal with a mental health crisis? Often, people are unaware that a colleague is suffering from a mental disorder unless the person tells them. Effective treatments mean that many people with a mental illness can function well in the workplace with no impact on their work. However what happens when a crisis situation develops? Would you know how to talk to someone who is suicidal, or how to recognise a panic attack?

This half day workshop gives an overview of some of the more common mental disorders including depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, psychosis, and panic attacks. It provides an understanding of what it may be like for someone who has a mental health problem, how you can be of support, and provides practical tips on how to help in a crisis situation.

The skills learned in this workshop can be applied in any setting including workplace, personal or social situations.
