This two day workshop is grounded in theory, research and clinical experience.  It has a focus on developing practical skills for working with couples.

Participants will consider the impact of attachment styles on how they work with couples;  how to create a setting where a secure relationship can be fostered between the clients;  explore disconnection and the route to reconnection, and reflect on the challenge of creating empathy and safety between two people who may have put up the ‘safety barriers’ some time ago;  help clients recognise negative interaction cycles and how to interrupt them; how to assist clients to dismantle the ‘road blocks’ that get in their way; and look at common dilemmas the counsellor is likely to.  (Note:  Sex and sexuality when counselling couples is being covered in a separate one-day workshop).

This workshop has been influenced by the Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy approach and the research of The Gottman Institute.  The workshop will be interactive and experiential and participants will have the opportunity for skill development.
