Serious Incident Response

Even with the best planning, serious incidents can happen in workplaces at any time. When they occur, they can have lasting and wide reaching effects on employees, clients, and their family members. Serious incidents often are, by nature, sudden and unplanned. Centrecare Corporate operates a wide range of pre and post incident support services to maximise positive and helpful outcomes.

What is a Serious Incident?

Serious incidents are defined as "any incident that can be considered a serious physical or psychological threat". They are often sudden, and they induce a high level of response sufficient enough to delay the person's usual coping mechanisms. Common serious incidents in a workplace include:
  • Workplace accidents
  • Death, severe illness or injury of employees or their families
  • Assault or threat of harm
  • Significant conflict encounters
  • Redundancy and organisational transition

What is Serious Incident Response?

Serious Incident Response used to be known as Critical Incident Response. It describes a range of responses that people find useful in the provision of support and the prevention or containment of longer term effects of a trauma on their lives. These can include individual or group responses, and may occur either immediately following a serious incident, or in the days or weeks after the event.
