Motivational Interviewing combines a client centred counselling approach with directive psychological methods. It utilises the client's internal motivation to change and maintain problem behaviours. Motivational interviewing is particularly suitable when working with clients who may be feeling ambivalant about changing their behaviour or making changes in their life.
This workshop covers the following;
- Key Principles of Motivational Interviewing
- Stages of change
- Ambivilance and individual reasons for change
- Goal setting
- Resistance
- Role Plays
Suitable for counsellors, psychologists, social workers and other professionals working in the areas of drug and alcohol, criminal justice, organisational and career counselling, rehabilitation and any aspect dealing with ambivalence and resistance.
